When you put two music loving people together you are bound to get a sweet sound that will not only make you smile, but make you laugh, fall in love and possibly cry. The power of good music is such music that one of South Africa’s best afro-pop bands are about, Making music for the soul.

 

Made up of Thandeka Zulu and Sabelo Ngema, Afrosoul offers that long awaited breath of fresh air in the Afro Pop genre in SA and one that stands to inject a positive influence in both local and international stages. In the short space of time that they have been in the music industry, Afrosoul have managed to get four awards under their name.

 

“I speak for all of us when I say that we’ve wanted to do music from a young age. I mean we all went through school and church choirs and both of us had people telling us about our talent and we had to do something about it. We can’t run away from music because we are in this industry because of the love of good music.”

 

Afrosoul draw their strength and motivation from the rich musical and theatre background where they were trained. They have worked in a number of productions both in theatre and TV such as Moja Movie Factory, Stained Glass, Black Brain, The State Theatre, Playhouse Company, Committed Artists and Wushwini Arts Centre. They also have a lot of experience in the music industry as they have worked with the likes of Robbie Malinga, Mthunzi Namba, Guffy Pilane, Dr Mbongeni Ngema, Mandla Spikiri and David Mutanda from Nigeria.

 

They recently staged a big concert at the Durban Playhouse which was a great success as it was a SOLD-OUT show. The show featured artists like Zulu Boy, Khuzani Mpungose, Amaviyo and many more. Soon after the Playhouse show the duo jetted out to Italy for the European Folklore music festivals, where they did about 15 festivals in different cities.
